Pretty sure bricks were being used by the late medieval period and became more so in the tudor. but i agree the brick work does seem quite modern, maybe it was touched up or rebuilt when they put the upstairs extension on, or its an outer wall of bricks to aid in the support?

I don't think you set off an alarm, the section with the autonatic lights is just the evacuation area for the boats that go through the canal tunnel in there.

It might be a good idea to actually do some research before going to these places. Simple facts... The building has had a few alterations over the years and its had another floor added above the cage. There's also a 7ft deep hole in the cage under the floor.

After the MoD closed down RAF Bawdsey, I made a bid to either buy or lease the site. My idea was to use the air conditioned and physically secure underground area for secure storage of computer data for banks, Insurance companies or medical records. I those days on magnetic tape.. Possibly also to store bullion, Gold, Silver, Platimum and the like for investors. The "Bungalow" woud be our recption area and the area above ground could become a golf course. Beyond the cliff edge would be out of bounds. This would even generate a number of local jobs. Sadly the MoD refused to even consider my idea and nothing became of it.

I was stationed here 88 until it closed. We used to live in Bawdsey Manor and were back and forth on the road to the A site. Plenty of other bunkers are hidden around the Manor too.

Sorry for your loss. From what I see lots of stuff for a dumpster and a bonfire. If your tearing down any building that metal roof can be scraped for $$ any metal things can. Dont know where you live but some rural areas do allow a building to be burnt down by the fire dept. I'd get everything salvageable and have a yard blowout sale sell stuff on the cheap to get rid of it. When you said you were working all day and it doesn't look like nothing's been done, I totally feel you on that. You have to focus on 1 project and dont stoo until that is done. 1 clean up, put all that is trash in dumpster, or bonfire. 2 salvage organize what to sell/ keep/ donate/ scrap. Or you could at least clean up the area advertise massive yard sale and have people come to you. I really recomend you clean the area of debris because if someone gets hurt, your at fault. I totally understand your delma. Try to take it in steps not all at once. Good luck. Edit; I dont know if your planning to keep the property but there are people who buy property out right whatever the condition. You wont get too dollar but you'll get something and be rid of any more worry.
